Commissioner expresses shock at the state of sports facilities in Benue

Published  By Ejembi Ogwuche Benue State Commissioner for Youth, Sports, and Creativity, Mr. Terkimbi Ikyange, has expressed shock at the dilapidation of sporting facilities at Aper Aku Sports Complex, Makurdi. He made his feelings known after he recently inspected the sporting facilities at the stadium to ascertain the state of the facilities. The Commissioner was dismayed that the swimming pool, volleyball, basketball, and tennis courts, as well as hockey pitch and training facilities for boxing, traditional sports, and weightlifting, were all left to degenerate to a level that players and athletes would not be able to use any of them for training. At the main bowl, the commissioner was angry that the stadium was in a state where the state football Club, Lobi Stars, would have no choice but to play their home matches outside the State in the forthcoming football season. He expressed concern that apart from the main pitch, the players’ and referees’ dressing rooms, the athletes’ transit camp, and the indoor sports hall were in disrepair. Ikyange said with what he saw at the sports complex, the State would need huge sums of money to fix all the facilities. He expressed confidence that Governor Hyacinth Alia would ensure the stadium was refurbished.
